Barry Silverstein

Father of 2 future Cardinals, sons Devin and Ian, Barry was a strong believer in Yogi Berra’s famous quote, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.” Silverstein belives in playing every inning of every game as hard as you can, and this nose to the grind style has led to great on field successes for him.

2005 was Silverstein’s initial season with the Cardinals, and what a season it was. His 15/16 squad finished with a 42-18 record, with an outstanding post-season run. Silverstein moved up to the 18u level in 2006, posting a 28-10 record, followed by an even better ’07 campaign, in which his Redbirds finished 37-13. The ’07 18u squad placed second at the prestigious Liberty Tournament, and second at the NABF Northeast Regional’s. The 2008 season found the Senior Cardinals with a record of 27-13. For the 2011 season, the 18u team ended with a fantastic 30-13. In 7 years as a Cardinal coach, Silverstein was a most respectable 196-85-3. During the spring, Coach Silverstein was the Varsity Baseball assistant coach at Mineola High School.

In 2007, Silverstein was named the Nassau County Varsity Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2011, he led the 18u Cardinals to victory in the 2011 Liberty Tourney and again in 2012 in the Crush Invitational. His record for the 2012 season was 32-18-3.

In 2005, he was chosen to manage the All Star game at Shea Stadium and was chosen again in 2012 where the game took place in MCU stadium (home of the Brooklyn Cyclones).

Coach Silverstein attributed his success to the strong bonds he has built not only with his players, but their families as well. They all understand that everyone on a team has a job to do, and when this job gets done, the team will always come out ahead.

Coach Silverstein will always be a part of the Cardinals and missed by all.
